EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing authors joined us in October for a BTR show interview, but we didn’t get nearly enough time to really speak with Lynda Williams. We are making that up to you now.

Lynda Williams

lives in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada where she is hard at work completing the 10 Book Science Fiction epic The Okal Rel Saga. Okal Rel stands for swords-in-space as one manifestation of a belief system designed to balance the sustainability of life in the universe with personal ambitions, good and evil. Lynda’s publications also include a growing list of Okal Rel Universe related books published by Windstorm Creative. Her latest short fiction, “The Harpy”, based on a Robert Service poem, appears in Mythspring (2006) edited by Julie E. Czerneda. Born in Prince George, British Columbia, Lynda holds three post secondary degrees and is pursuing an MA in English, part time, with a special interest in Canadian Science Fiction. She is also a book editor for ScrollPress, operated by Dr. Dee Horne, and chair of UNBC Press, a small university press.

Daniel is a huge fan of science fiction/fantasy and the superhero genre. For the pen and paper crowd out there he enjoys playing Champions once a week with friends. He got hooked on The Secret World Chronicles by Mercedes Lackey and from there wanted to produce his own podcast!

BTR-PR Ending

As you may have read in our last blog post, the extended Blog Talk Radio show is coming to an end this month because of changes to the BTR hosting format. “Why?” you ask, “I love that Podioracket live show.” Yes, we do too. But… Blog Talk Radio has changed the format of free hosting for people like us. We don’t charge the authors for their interviews or for promoting their books, as it should be, in my opinion. With these changes we are no longer be able to provide the promos and excerpts that add such substance to the interviews. According to Blog Talk Radio, unless we want to pay premium fees, our show times can no longer be during prime time and last no longer than 30 minutes. Which, when we have a lively guest and you guys calling in or asking live-chat questions, is simply not long enough.

We are going to end our blog talk show in January and are looking for a new platform. We hate to disappoint any of you, but it is the way it has to be. The additional cost BTR is demanding for a premium account is simply out of our budget and we’ve never charged for what we do. Donations are great, but have never been enough to cover a $40.00 a month ongoing fee.

As we move forward we will let you all know what is happening and how our platform is changing. We are mulling over some killer ideas for promoting authors in the future and we would like to have your input. So comment on this thread or email us at contact@podioracket.com. Let us know what your thoughts are, and if you have any suggestions.

Dragon Moon Press associate publisher Gabrielle Harbowy answered our questions and announced a special offer for Podioracket.com listeners. Dr. Joseph P. O’Donnell is a board-certified pediatric dentist who has been involved in clinical practice and dental education for more than thirty-five years. Dr. O’Donnell is an Associate Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. O’Donnell has authored a number of scientific articles pertaining to pediatric dentistry and special needs patients. However, for the past several years, he has pursued his long-time interest in creative writing. Under the pen name of JP O’Donnell, he has written two mystery novels, Fatal Gamble and the sequel, Deadly Codes: A Gallagher Novel. The Boom Effect

The auction to raise funds for Sonic Boom was started by a group of podcasters and writers as a way for these communities to show support for the Morris family. Tee Morris is a beloved founding father of the podcasting community; co-creator of Podiobooks.com, writer of four social media books, and the first novelist to serialise his novel. On the 5th of January 2010 Tee found himself facing raising his daughter (with the alias of Sonic Boom) alone, after the sudden, shocking death of his wife Natalie. J.C's interview was a "Today's Picks"

We were very excited when an episode of Podioracket.com’s BlogTalkRadio extension reached #10 in books. Our fabulous interview with J.C. Hutchins was a highlight that we worked diligently to beat.

Our recent Triple Threat interview on PR-BTR did the job, reaching an astounding #1 in the books category with more than 1,400 downloads in one week.

While we were still celebrating, BlogTalkRadio contacted us to announce that PR-BTR is now one of their featured shows. It appears third on their homepage. They will help promote the show and push listeners to it. They also enabled additional features such as video– though just because you have a new toy doesn’t mean you have to use it! 

Consistently good guests, a regular schedule, an amazing group of dedicated participants, and of course the charming nature of our regular host Rhonda R Carpenter, with just the occassional smattering of H.E. Roulo has helped us reach this level. We’ll continue to have all of these things but we want more!

Help us reach our goals, and tell us who you want to the opportunity to talk to live. We already have plans to talk to voice talent, artistic directors, and editors in addition to a flood of new and returning Podiobooks.com authors. Anyone in particular you’re dying for (Nathan, we’re going to keep asking!)

If you make it onto the show we’ll do our part to promote the episode but there are steps that authors and fans can do to make it even better. Here are the factors that we’ve seen drive the most fun, excitement, and the highest numbers:

1) Blog about it- Blogging let’s an author’s fans know that the show is coming. Remind them to get their questions ready!

2) Facebook/MySpace- Sharing information on these sites spreads the word and is very timely.

3) Tell friends- Every person counts, especially if they know the author well enough to ask the great questions and cheer the author on.

4) Offer a treat- Authors should consider giving away copies of the book, copies of the ebook, or running a promotion sp people have more incentive to get up from the second helping of dessert just for the chance to speak to them.

5) Twitter- Twitter gives great word-of-mouth and can spread through all the right people who might be interested.

6) Give a count down- You may feel you’ve been shouting, but people are so forgetful they miss birthdays and anniversaries. An hour before the interview give the people, many who are genuinely interested, the reminder they need to show up. Get those last-minute spontaneous clicks, and reward them with a smashing, awesome, fun time!
